ACSA ON THE OFFENSIVE:KNOCKS THE "NOCS" (Network-Only Computers), ACCUSING THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT OF "PROVIDING SERVICES" TO A TECHNOLOGY TRUST HEADED BY IBM, SUN MICRO, NETSCAPE, NOVELL AND ORACLE... -- A.K.A. THE "AT&T GANG OF FIVE". SAYS THE US ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS CORRUPTED THE JUSTICE SYSTEM: "SELECTIVE PROSECUTIONS AIMED AT MANIPULATING PUBLIC OPINION AND REPRESSING THE PC and WINDOWS TO THE PUBLIC'S DETRIMENT: HIGHER COSTS". Accuses President Clinton and AG Janet Reno of "Political Favor Banking that would make Boss Tweed jealous".. Calls for the IMMEDIATE OUSTER of Janet Reno.
The Conference Discussion Topic: that a Consortium known as the "AT&T GANG OF FIVE" had introduced an obsolete computer technology: "THE NETWORK-ONLY COMPUTER", in an attempt to expand its monopoly over computing "into households and corporations the world over, in a rerun of George Orwell's novel: '1984'". The Conference once again SLAMMED Attorney General Janet Reno: "Reno is engaging in the illicit bartering of the services of the Justice Department's 'Anti-Trust Division' to the very monopoly Justice was charged with eliminating: the Telephone Company", alleging Reno was "very literally Sleeping with the Enemy". ACSA's Speakers rejected criticisms by Justice Department officials, indicating that the " 'dedicated NC' is 'based on technology that was largely rejected by Consumers since its introduction in the 70's, due to its dependence on Mainframes and Timesharing for the ability to operate'". It alleged that IBM and AT&T had resorted now to improper AND illegal means to confuse the public into buying in to "an old, outdated theme: the Unix Terminal of 1977" so as to "Sell More Mainframes and Tons of Phone Services". An ACSA Spokesperson quipped: "Apparently, the 'Picture Phone' concept having failed, AT&T was trying to make it the 'Picture Terminal'. IBM adopted the AT&T Terminal Solution for its AS400 and RS6000. IBM, the world's largest Computer Company, has joined ranks with AT&T, the largest Phone Company, and Lucent Technologies, their 'joint venture'. IBM and AT&T's alliance then joined ranks with other AT&T Gang of Five-er's to form a Trade Trust:
...to stand off thousands of PC Companies and software suppliers like Microsoft, by maintaining a 'Virtual Corporate Monopoly over the Internet' through worldwide alliances with 500+ Internet Service Suppliers and Apple. ACSA indicated that Janet Reno "has injured America in prosecuting Microsoft while ignoring AT&T and the Gang of Five and their $220 Billion Monopoly, roughly the same aggregate sales dollars AT&T was, when it was broken-up by Justice in 1981. History has repeated itself: Rome burns while Attorney General Reno Fiddles." "The Public Furor over this UNHOLY ALLIANCE between IBM, AT&T and the other GANG OF FIVE-ers, should have been at a fever pitch, but it is not: for Attorney General Janet Reno's fraudulent prosecution of Microsoft has been one big distraction. It's all a big game, with the stakes being manipulated by the Attorney General and the President." "In the Opinion of ACSA's Political Analysts: neither Clinton nor Reno should even be allowed to hold public office, as they make a habit of using their positions to engage in Private Promotions that are both illegal and ignorant. Both are Carpetbaggers. At least Janet Reno should be impeached for breach of her official responsibilities, her unique mannerisms include using untrustworthy sources which have the ability to manipulate her opinions and priorities through private and personal relationships that pre-dated her present job assignments. Such affairs would appall mainstream America, were they fully known. In Clinton's case, the link between him and IBM and Oracle may be as 'dim as the evidence he left behind of his involvement in Whitewater and Gennifer Flowers' yet, nonetheless, it is cast in concrete forged by past improper or illegal behavior. Clinton may be the archetype of the 'Teflon-Don' President, one who wishes to remain so." "As a result of Clinton's excessively liberal interpretation of Constitutional Constraints prohibiting certain Public Official conduct: our Government has now taken an active role in Promoting one corporate technological solution, albeit an obsolete one, over another. Now, because of the Cinton/Reno alliance with the AT&T Gang of Five, the Government is completely on the wrong side of the Law in a manner that exceeds Richard Nixon's cause for resignation. Were this a war, the AT&T Gang of Five would be selling bombs and bullets out of the White House, rather than just Network-only Computers and Internet Services, and you and I would be protesting outside of the White House, demanding Clinton's impeachment." "Unfortunately, he has Press backing, as AT&T and the Gang of Five control key Press spokespersons who are readily available to manipulate the issues." EXERPTS FROM THE ROUND TABLE WHICH INVOLVED SOME 10,000 TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES and 2.5 MILLION MEMBERS: ACSA's OFFICE OF PUBLIC ADVOCACY stated: "The Gang of Five's Network Computer is based on the X-Station developed originally in 1971 as a Telex-like or IBM 3270-like terminal. Because it is a "Network-Only Computer" (NOC), it is unbelievably obsolete and limiting. Without the Internet -- it does nothing, without Java it performs no tasks, the Windows PC makes the SUN, RCA and IBM JAVA NC look 'like boat anchors with no boat', and cost no more than an NC". "The problem with the Network-Only Computer as envisioned by Oracle, Sun and IBM, is it mimics the operation of a local 'dumb terminal' while adding hypertext and graphics that enable it to maintain screen compatibility with the Internet and Telnet." "It was rejected by computer industry customers during the 70's and 80's because it is so technologically limiting and expensive. Don't be fooled by the low cost of a single station: the reliance of NOCs on central systems is so great that it increases your and my cost by the need to meter our usage. NOC's have their place in shop floor automation, and other simple applications, yet PC's today can be configured to replace them, too, at a lower cost. Examples of Compaq, American Computer Company and Hewlett Packard Network Personal Computers that are based on IBM-PC Compatible PC's and can be expanded to Full PCs 'when the customer's budget calls for it' only make you wonder why anyone would propose a 'Network-only PCs'. They demonstrate how the Network-only Computer envisioned by Sun and Oracle and 'the AT&T Gang of Five' is so penultimately limiting." "The original rejection of the NC was caused by an extreme degree of reliance on 'Central Mainframes' - the primary business of IBM and of DEC, SUN and UNISYS. The NC also relies solely on telecommunications, without which it is 'a boat anchor needing a boat and a port'. The NC is characterized by inflexibility, low reliability, lacking expandability and possesses largely mediocre performance. Because the Telephone Company limits our daily bandwidth, the Public does not yet know this. The NC merely serves as an excuse for high communications line charges - the business of the Telephone Monopoly. It has absolutely no off-line function, otherwise it would be a PC, not an NC. It also subjects us all to Government Regulation, for there is substantial precedent in federal regulation of such 'timesharing' services as would replace today's Internet if the NC becomes the 'back to the future past' technology platform." "ACSA feels that the speed of the Internet should be dedicated to transferring Data and Information. It should not just be used to send applet programs back and forth. The Programs should already largely reside on the hard drive of the Internetworking Personal Computer (the "PC"), should be supplemented by small meta-programs, like animated GIFs and JavaScripts (that can be secured) or be updated at the convenience of PC Owner. The machines should be loaded from media like CD and interactive DVD that can be rapidly scanned against viruses, and not solely be loaded across the Web. Otherwise there is a serious Security problem - and a serious opportunity for Big Brother control of our local computing." "It should never be updated or operate at the sole convenience of the Service Provider or Website. The NC takes the control of the computer out of the hands of the Consumer and places it in the hands of the "AT&T Gang of Five". This is a highly monopolistic practice, and one that deprives EVERYONE of personal liberties. Reduction of the PC to the NC is a technological abomination which undermines the very essence of the antitrust laws and takes us back to the days of the IBM 3270 Tube when we all worked for a "keystroke count". Those days, users of the 3270 were little better than Keypunch Operators turning out Punched Tab Cards. Are we to be relegated to Monty Python's vision in the Film "Brazil" - as a world of Data Entry Operators? We should be reducing the cost of PCs instead, they do both jobs, local and network, and they give us a great degree of Independence." "The world of the "NC" has a legacy of "elitism, big bucks to own the service provision, and huge efforts to program it" -- it is nothing less than a scam that could put every American household under Orwellian Big Brother Surveillance on an Apocalyptic Scale". Since none of the AT&T Gang of Five companies can really be trusted, the reliance on NCs would also place the secret files of every corporation and government agency in America at the Gang of Five's disposal: something like opening your doors and inviting the Vampires within." "During the 70's, reliance on Mainframes in so-called 'Timesharing' systems led to long down times, slow performance, expensive communications charges and obsolete 'communicating applications' not based on the 'client-server' standard. The war of the PC vs. the Mainframe was essentially lost by IBM, Sun, Dec and Unisys in the 70's and 80's. Yet, here it is again, being resurfaced by the AT&T Gang of Five. They are leveraging the enormous political clout of their secret partner: AT&T and the Telephone Company lobby - a lobby hideously reinforced to circumvent the break up of AT&T in 1971." "WE FEEL THAT THE NC PUSH IS IN AN OBVIOUS ATTEMPT TO BUY PUBLIC OPINION AND UNDERMINE THE SUCCESS OF THE PERSONAL COMPUTER AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS, TO 'CONFUSE THE PUBLIC', AND SUPPORT 'ENORMOUS TELEPHONE CHARGES' ". "Individuals subject to Political Influence peddling, namely: Bill Clinton (recalling his sit down with ORACLE Corporation several months ago), Janet Reno (citing the fraudulent prosecution of Microsoft) and certain State Governors who, ACSA indicated, it believes are simply selling their respective office's services for campaign funding promises by the Telcos, IBM and the Gang of Five. They have made ignorant Political choices that could undermine our Freedom on an apocalyptic scale." "The United States Public is being asked to take a big step back into the era of Dinosauric Mainframes and Apocalyptic 'pre-Bell System breakup' communications charges, in an obvious blow by the 'Telecom and Computing Carpetbaggers' that seek to dominate our daily lives." THE ACSA SITED IBM's "ANTI HUMANIST ADVERTISING" FEATURING A SYNICAL SNL COMIC CONDEMNING STUDENT AND ELDERLY USE OF THE INTERNET FOR EDUCATION AND PERSONAL SELF EXPRESSION: THIS IS A "KEY INDICATION OF THE DESIRE BY IBM AND THE GANG OF FIVE TO COMMERCIALIZE THE INTERNET IN A WAY THAT RELEGATES IT TO HIGH USAGE RATES AND NETWORK COMPUTING SIMILAR TO IBM MAINFRAME COMPUTING OF THE 70'S. IT IS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF IBM's AD CAMPAIGNS ABOUT A MAN FROM ITALY WHO WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE HIS STUDY OF MUSIC VIA THE INTERNET (BY LISTENING TO THE COLLECTED WORKS OF JS BACH)." A Commentator at the public conference stated: "THE NC COULD DEPRIVE THE UNITED STATES OF ITS INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY, BY TURNING THE INTERNET INTO THE "INFORMATION COMBAT ZONE OF THE YEAR 2000" WHERE TODAY'S LARGELY FREE INFORMATION SERVICES AND LARGELY FREE EDUCATIONAL SOURCES AND RESEARCH SOURCES, BECOME AS 'TAXI-METERED' AS THE IBM 360 MAINFRAME. THE IBM 360 ACTUALLY HAD A METER ON IT TO THAT WORKED MUCH LIKE THE MILEAGE CHARGES ON YOUR AUTOMOBILE LEASE: GO OVER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS USE, AND THEY HIT YOU WITH A SURCHARGE. THERE IS A HUGE ULTERIOR MOTIVE HELD BY IBM AND AT&T IN HAVING JOINED FORCES THREE YEARS AGO AND ORGANIZED THE GANG OF FIVE: THEY WANT TO DOMINATE WORLDWIDE INFORMATION SYSTEMS BY THE YEAR 2010, AND THEY ALREADY LARGELY DO DOMINATE IT - THAT IS WHY WE ARE FORCED TO USE LOW SPEED PHONE LINES TO ACCESS IT - THEY DO NOT WANT US TO EXPERIENCE THE MIRACLE OF MULTI-MEGABIT COMMUNICATIONS FROM OUR PC DESKTOPS - BY REPRESSING IT, THEY ARE KEEPING THE DOOR OPEN FOR PRE-PC TECHNOLOGY: THE NC WHILE TRYING TO SLAM THE DOOR ON THE PC BEFORE THEIR PRECIOUS IBM AND SUN MAINFRAMES ARE DELETED FROM THE SCRIPT ON ACCOUNT OF LACK OF VALUE. WE HAVE ALL WONDERED WHO'S BEHIND ALL THOSE UNUSUAL COINCIDENCES, REPEATING HISTORIES AND STRANGE AFFAIRS THAT HAVE PLAGUED OUR TECHNOLOGICAL SOCIETY SINCE WORLD WAR II. WELL, HERE WE HAVE IT: AT&T AND THE GANG OF FIVE: THEY ARE BEHIND EVERY LAST BIT AND BYTE OF IT." "The real question is..." stated ACSA's Chairperson, in the weekly Internet Broadcast to 2.5 million members, "Do we really want to open up our wallets and purses to the uncontrolled draining of our earnings that could result from eliminating the local computing component from our Personal Computers? Do we want to pay even higher charges for telephone usage? Or, do we want to demand that the Government and the FCC allow the Cable Industry to give us unlimited 6 Million Bit per second or faster Internet Access. We should use our PCs in the manner we are: as a local business and home computing resource, rather than allowing it all to be given away to the Sharks that care not what happens to you and me, so long as they make their grandiose Earnings Projections. Janet Reno and Bill Clinton would have us all be Food for these Sharks."
